About Me:
I enjoy endurance running. Often times while running marathons or ultras, I hit a section on the trail where I feel as though I'm running toward myself. The garbage of ego melts away like snow in the spring. Running helps me be, as Eckhart Tolle would say, “In The Moment”. To say the most with the fewest words, I guess I'd simply say, I'm a runner…
After nearly 25 years of Corporate America, I decided to blend things that inspire me with my thirst for improving myself through fitness. I took the crisis of having my job eliminated at Macy's as an opportunity and made the jump… I used the severance and a chunk of my 401K and invested in myself. Yes, myself. I purchased an Anytime Fitness 24 Hour Gym on 7/1/08. The goal has and will continue to be to stay involved and never treat the gym and all the wonderful members there as simply a job or a number.
Yes, I'm also still running
www.MarathonCase.com, a small home business providing display cases for those interested in displaying their finisher's medals. The idea is to proudly display the medals as an inspiration to continue to push to live… Although displaying finishers medals can be viewed as living in the past, that's NOT the intent. The idea is to display those symbols proudly as a reminder not only of what you have accomplished, but what we can and must continue to do - Live. Displaying symbols of accomplishment can also be used in a positive way to inspire others. Finisher's medals are not about winning… they are about participation and living!
A few things that have changed….
The last time I updated this page I want to grow Marathon Case.com…. Instead I bought an entire new business and really enjoy it. Interesting how opportunities present themselves…. “This, too, will pass.” Eckhart Tolle (A New Earth) Ahh so so true indeed.
Running…. I've shifted my running goals a bit over the past two years. Although I'm still interested in running a marathon and/or ultra in every state, doing so by the time I hit 50 is no longer that important. I suspect at the rate I'm going, I'll have well over a 100 marathons/ultras under my belt by 50, but assisting first time marathoners is now much more rewarding than adding another state to the list… Speed also falls into this category. Enjoying the journey has become far more rewarding than shaving a few minute off my finish time. Especially since I now believe “Finish” as in Time, Line, etc. is a silly concept. There is no finish! At least in the grand scheme of things. ;-) It's all just part of the journey. The key is to be present in what we do and pay attention…. As Socrates said to Dan in Peaceful Warrior: Where are you Dan? Here… What Time Is It? Now. What Are You? This Moment. - What a great reminder. Here. Now. This Moment.
Running has taught me more about myself than I ever imagined… See you on the trails!
Thank you!
